Opening



Mr. I Gede Pandu Wirawan, as a Chairman of Youth Interfaith Community, delivered his speech representing the view of committee. He stated that this IYF 2012 is aimed to create a peace through the stated theme: Better Understanding through Interfaith Dialogue.


Ms. Meliani E. Murtiningsih, MA, as a representative of Dialogue Institute, USA. Dialogue Institute as one of facilitator during alumnae of SUSI (Study of the US Institute) program in Temple University, USA, said that really proud that their alumnae have implemented their action plan through Interfaith Youth Forum 2012.

An Introduction to Interfaith Dialogue

Ms. Meliani E. Murtiningsih from Dialogue Institute, USA explained about an Introduction to Interfaith Dialogue. First, she explained about definition of interfaith dialogue. Interfaith Dialogue is cooperation, constructive and positive interaction between people of different faith traditions. There are three misconception of interfaith dialogue: an effort to create new religion, an opportunity to convert others and belief in a dialogue is only a debate.
She also explained that there are three goals of interfaith dialogue: first, to gain an understanding and acceptance the difference, second, to struggle against negative conditioning and fanaticism and third, to open the door of the listening, communicating and respect.

Building a Peaceful Ideal Nation

Religious Pluralism and Interfaith Tolerance in perspective of Islam, Catholic and Protestant, Hindu and Buddhist in this section, each religious leader gave their perspective about Religious Pluralism and Interfaith Tolerance.

One Family under God

Mr James Poon from Global Peace Foundation explained One Family under God as new paradigm to reach interfaith peace.  While each faith tradition has its own unique and essential spiritual path, all faiths share a common responsibility to promote the greater good in civil society.  Faith leaders should promote a common understanding of the most fundamental universal principles.

Worship and City Tour
The third days of IYF 2012 activity are visiting place for Worship and City Tour. All participants joined a tour in visiting place for worship and tourist resort in Palembang. Firstly, we visited Pura (Temple) Penataran Agung Sriwijaya, a worship place for Hindu. And then we moved to Pesantran Ar-Rahman (Islamic Boarding School), Vihara Dharma Kirti (Buddhist Worship), HKBP Yapon Protestant Church and Santo Joseph Catholic Church. We also visited venue of South East Asia (SEA) Games, Ampera Bridge and Museum of Sultan Mahmud Baddarudin II. The aim of this trip was to learn more about these religions and Palembang’s culture.
At the end of this trip, they came to souvenirs’ centre and traditional food of Palembang. All participants seemed to be happy for knowing the diversity of Palembang’s culture, especially they can learn more and directly come to worship place in Palembang. At most, they were really pleased to join this serial program from 28-30 September 2012, in Interfaith Youth Forum 2012.

Pandu is an undergraduate student of National University of Jakarta, majoring International Relations. He was selected as one of twenty outstanding student leaders to Study of the United State Institute (SUSI) on Religious Pluralism and America Democracy at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA. Pandu is actively involved in youth programs. He ever represented Indonesia in Young Leaders Assembly in University of Malaya, Malaysia in 2010. Pandu also ever lead 200 University Students from around Indonesia at Young Leaders Summit 2011. He is in charge of chief at Interfaith Youth Forum 2012.

Agus Burniat
Agus is a Sociology student, concentration on Social Planning at University of Sriwijaya, Palembang. He was selected as one of UNESCO International Youth Peace Ambassador at Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2011. He is also recipient SUSI Scholarship that funded by U.S Department to study about Religious Pluralism and America Democracy at  Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA. Agus ever represented Indonesia in some international youth event such as WISDOM 2010 in Jogjakarta, Indonesia, Asia Pacific Forum in Thailand, International Youth Day in Philippine. He is now in charge of secretary at Interfaith Youth Forum 2012.

Ron is an Information System student at Muhamadiyah University of Yogyakarta. He is Student Governor at Faculty of Computer Science, Muhamadiyah University of Yogyakarta. He is actively involved in youth program. He was selected as one of twenty outstanding student leaders to Study of the United State Institute (SUSI) on Religious Pluralism and America Democracy at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA. He is in charge of treasure at Interfaith Youth Forum 2012.

1. Anita Noor Rohmah
Annita is a student of International Program of Law School at Islamic University of Indonesia in Yogyakarta. She is an active person in some organizations since she was in Junior High School and also she actively involved in English Competition and Olympiad in her region. Anita is one of twenty Indonesia Outstanding Students Leaders to Study of the United State Institute (SUSI) on Religious Pluralism and America Democracy at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA. Now, she is in charge of operating at Interfaith Youth Forum 2012.
                                                             
2. Heru Darmawan
Heru is a 7th semester student in Sriwijaya University majoring English Education, besides his activity as an English teacher. He has been interested in organizations since he was in senior high school, which later brought him to bigger activities, among others, being one of Indonesian representatives in International Moslem Student Summit (IMSS 2012) and participant in Young Leaders for Indonesia by McKinsey (YLI wave 4). Not only those, but in the same year, he also represented South Sumatra in Indonesian Youth Ship (Kapal Pemuda Nusantara) to promote his province. Apart from his activities, he really is addicted to singing and cats. To him, there is no day without singing and nothing can cheer him up better than his cats.

Melisa is an undergraduate student, majoring Sociology, Concentration on Employment at University of Sriwijaya, Palembang. She is vice president of Himpunan Mahasiswa Sosiologi UNSRI. On December 2011, she was selected as one of UNESCO International Youth Peace Ambassador. She is in charge of administration at Interfaith Youth Forum 2012

Annisa is an undergraduated student of University of Sriwijaya, departement of accounting. She was awarded a scholarship from The Indonesian International Education Foundation (IIEF) sponsored by U.S Embassy of Jakarta named Indonesia English Language Study program (IELSP) Cohort X Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona. IELSP is a short course program of IIEF that bring the students from Indonesia to study about american english and culture for two months in the U.S. In addition, she was attended the international conference named WISDOM 2010 in Yogjakarta, Indonesia

Robinson is a Physics student, concentration on Geophysics at University of Sriwijaya, Palembang. He is an active person in some organizations since he was in Junior High School and He is actively involved in some voluntary event. He is Vice President of Student Chapter of American Association of Petroleum Geologist Sriwijaya University. He was selected as observer at Indonesian Young Changemakers Summit 2012 and one of Indonesian delegates at The 4th Malaysia International Youth Programme in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia on May 2012.

1. Rahmatullah
Rahmat is an English Education student at Ar-Raniry State Institute of Islamic Studies, Banda Aceh. He is actively involved in some voluntary event. He work part time as Teacher of English and Arabic Language at some Islamic Boarding Schools in Banda Aceh. He was selected by U.S Department of State to Study Religious Pluralism and America Democracy for five weeks at Temple University, USA. He is in charge of publication at Interfaith Youth Forum 2012. 

2. Septian Pratama Ambehy
Septian Pratama Ambehy is an undergraduated student of University of Sriwijaya, departement of accounting. He is a Director of "LPM Gelora Sriwijaya Unsri" 2011-2012, he has a business creative "Pratama Studio" with his team. He was selected as 200 Young leader from around Indonesia to join Young Leaders Summit 2011 at Cisrua, Bogor. His hobbies are photography, business and social activity.

1. Boma Apriansyah
Boma is an university student of Mining Engineering at University of Sriwijaya. He is actively involved in community service. One of his organization is Komunitas Indonesia Peduli Untuk Sesama (KOIN PLUS). KOIN PLUS is a community who concern to help poor people in Palembang. They collect second hand dress and also money to help them. Now, he is in charge of transportation at Interfaith Youth Forum 2012                                                              

2. Rudi Hartono


Rudi Hartono completed his undergraduate degree in English education at Sriwijaya University in 2009 as the most outstanding graduate. He is now pursuing a Master’s Degree at Sriwijaya University Graduate School. This year he was selected as a delegate for Indonesia Malaysia Youth Exchange Program from Ministry of Youth and Sport. He received a Presenter Grant from IDP: IELTS Australia to attend CamTESOL ELT Conference in Cambodia. He was also the Runner up of Language Ambassador of South Sumatera Province. In addition, he was awarded Indonesian English Language Study Program (IELSP) Scholarship from IIEF & Institute International Education, USA. During his college years up to now, he has participated in several organizations such as Sriwijaya Menyala, TEFLIN, INASOC, GEMPITA/PKMPI Kemenpora, and SEESPA (Students of English Education Study Program Association).


3. Riska Fitrah. A 
Riska is an agriculture student at sriwijaya university, consentration on soil science which focus on environmental impact analysis. I actively joined several organizations in campuss and extra-campuss, namely member of Student Leadership Training of South Sumatera (2007-now), Student Union of agriculture Faculty as staff of public relation Department (2010 and 2012), general secretary of student union of agroecotechnology study programme (2010), students 1st region of AET/AGT Indonesia as head of financial departement (2011-now) and Youth Community of South Sumatera as member (2011-now). I was chosen as Indonesian Youth Delegate at the 4th Malaysia Youth International Programme which was held on May 2012 in Putrajaya,Kuala Lumpur. I was selected as delegate for Malaysia-Indonesia-Thailand (M-I-T) Exchange Student Programme 2011 (6 months).

1. MELIANI MURTININGSIH, M.A 


              MELIANI MURTININGSIH, M.A is a Program Associate at the Dialogue Institute and Editorial Assistant for the Journal of Ecumenical Studies.  Meliani holds a Bachelor of Theology emphasizing Islamic Studies and an M.A. in Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations from Hartford Seminary, Hartford, CT.  She has earned certificates from the International Institute of Islamic Thought for its Summer Student Program, Hartford Seminary for its Congregational Relations Program, Women Leadership Institute and Overseas Ministries Student Center. Meliani is originally from Indonesia and her academic interests are in Christian and Islamic Theology, Islamic Jurisprudence and the history of relations between Christians and Muslims worldwide. Back in Indonesia, she served in youth ministry in her own congregation for several years.

2. Mr. James Poon 


Mr. James Poon was born on 1968 in Gerik, Perak, Malaysia. He received his formal and many informal educations and leadership training from various countries of the world. And study Korean language in Sun Moon University, KoreaHe served his public life as lecturer about 20 years. Mr. James Poon go around the Region talk about Family Values, Peace Building & Leadership Development. He is currently served as the President of GPYC-Malaysia, Director of Leadership Development in GPF-Malaysia and the International Relation of Chinese Federation for Global Peace Malaysia. He is currently the father of three beautiful children. Please welcome our dynamic speaker James Poon.
